How do I find a specific work of art?

Looking for a specific historical work of art

If you are looking for a specific work of art might I suggest you do the following. Go to your local library and see if there was a catalogue raisonne written on the artist in question. This is a book that will illustrate all the known works by the artist and will also tell you where the works are (at least where they were at the time of the book's publication). You can also search the web for a particular artist or art you are looking for.
